You have two options from here on how to proceed: by sharing your location or not sharing your location.
After signing your I-9, you will see this screen. Select the blue “click here” to begin section 2.
Please read the instructions carefully. You may use a laptop with a camera for this step, or a cell phone, but your authorized representative must have a smartphone.
You have two options from here on how to proceed: by sharing your location or not sharing your location.
Option One: Sharing Location
After clicking ‘Share My Location’, you will see the following screen:
You will need to enter the phone number of the person who is acting as your authorized representative, and click ‘Send Text Message. ’
*NOTE: Your authorized representative will also need to have location sharing enabled for this step if you are using this option. If they do not wish to share their location, please utilize Option 2 instead.
After you enter their cell phone number and click ‘Send Text Message’, you will see this on your screen:
You have the option here to send the text message again, and also to start over with a different person and phone number if needed.
At this point, the rest of the verification will need to be completed by your authorized representative. They should have received a text message similar to the following, but with your name:
Upon clicking the link, they will be asked to share their location, which is required for this option (you may need to select ALLOW on your device). There is also a brief, optional video explaining more about how to complete the I9:
After submitting their location, they will be asked to certify their identity and to type their name (they should NOT type your name):
They will then be asked to verify your documents. You must have your physical documents handy for them to inspect and to confirm that they match the photos shown on the screen:
If they do not match, they can indicate this, and you will need to restart the process. If they do match, after clicking ‘Match’, they will be asked to sign and click ‘complete verification’:
And then you will see this on your screen:
And you’re done!
Option 2: QR Code (No location sharing)
If you choose not to share your location, much of the above process will be the same, but you will instead need to use a QR code provided by WorkBright to verify that you are in the same physical location as your verifier.
You will click ‘Share My Location’ on this screen:
If you have denied access to your location, you will see a message like this:
You will proceed to enter your document reviewer’s cell phone number and click ‘send text message’. You will then see this on your screen:
Your authorized representative should have received a text message like this:
Upon clicking this link, they will see this on their mobile browser:
Back on your screen, you will click ‘Begin QR code scan’. Using either a camera on your laptop or the camera on your mobile device, you will scan the QR code that is displayed on your authorized representative’s device.
After scanning, your screen will look like this:
They will click ‘Scan Completed’ on their device, and at that time, they will be brought to step 2 (verify documents):
Authorized Representative QR Code Scan
For companies that use the “Authorized Representative QR Code Scan” feature, the process will be similar, but the QR code will not be sent to your authorized representative, but will appear on your screen for the authorized representative to scan, as seen below.
Note: This is not the default setting but can be configured on your account at your request. Reach out to our support team to set this up.
Your authorized representative should have received a text message like this:
Upon clicking this link, they will see this on their mobile browser:
After clicking “Begin QR Code Scan,” they may be prompted to allow camera access to scan the QR code:
After selecting “Allow,” a camera feature will open on the screen to scan the QR code.
After scanning, your authorized representative will be moved to Step 2: Certifying Identity, as seen in Option 1, and they can continue the process from there.
Your screen will move to this page:
That is the ins and outs of Section 2. Congrats on completing your Form I-9.
